About Image Compressor

Make JPG, PNG and WebP images smaller. Drop in one photo or a whole folder's worth, pick a quality, and each file is re-encoded with its size before and after and the percentage saved. Click any file to compare the original and the compressed version side by side before you download.

Two optional limits do most of the work: a maximum width and height (images are only ever shrunk, never enlarged), and a target file size such as "under 500 KB", where the quality is tuned per file to land just under the limit. If a file cannot get that small, it says so instead of quietly missing. And if re-saving would make a file bigger, the original is kept. The images are decoded and encoded in your browser, so they never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to under 100 KB?

Turn on Target file size, enter 100 and choose KB. The quality is searched per file to find the highest setting that still fits. If even the lowest quality is too large, the row says so; adding a max width and height usually solves it.

Why does my PNG barely get smaller?

PNG is lossless, and a browser saves it without the extra squeezing a desktop optimizer applies, so re-saving a PNG as PNG saves little. Switch to WebP (which keeps transparency) or JPG, or set a max size, for real savings.

Does compressing reduce quality?

JPG and WebP are lossy, so lower quality settings discard detail. Around 75 to 85% is hard to tell apart from the original for most photos. Use the before and after preview to check.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Every file is processed on a canvas in your browser and the results are generated on your device.

Is it private?

Every calculation happens on this page, in your own browser. Your input is never sent to a server and never logged, which also means the tool keeps working when you are offline.
