Watch your mic level live and hear yourself played back.
Check your microphone with a live level meter. Press Start microphone, allow access, and speak: the bar shows how loud you are, a peak marker catches short spikes, and a label tells you whether the level is quiet, good or too loud. If nothing comes through for a few seconds, the test says so and suggests what to check.
To hear how you actually sound, record a clip of up to 10 seconds and it plays back right away. The clip stays in this tab's memory and is gone when you leave the page.
If you have several microphones, choose one from the list. Under Processing you can turn the browser's echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto gain on or off to hear the difference between the raw and the filtered sound.
Check for a mute switch on the microphone or headset cable, the input volume in your system sound settings, and that the right microphone is selected. Some laptops also have a mute key with a small light.
While you talk normally, the bar should reach the green zone and the peak marker should stay out of the red. If it shows Too loud or clipping, lower the input volume or move back a little.
Click the microphone or lock icon at the left of the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload the page. On a Mac or Windows PC, also check the microphone privacy setting in the system settings.
Nothing is uploaded. The level is measured in the page, and a playback clip only exists in the tab's memory until you leave or record a new one.
Every calculation happens on this page, in your own browser. Your input is never sent to a server and never logged, which also means the tool keeps working when you are offline.
